Porzingis Returns for Mavericks but Struggles
The Boston Celtics pulled away from the Dallas Mavericks in the second half to earn a 106-99 victory in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night. With the win, the Celtics now hold a 3-0 lead in the series and are just two wins away from capturing their 18th NBA championship.
Boston's star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the way once again, combining for 61 points in the victory. Tatum finished with a game-high 33 points, while Brown added 28. Kristaps Porzingis, who missed Game 2 with a knee injury, returned to the lineup for the Mavericks but struggled to find his rhythm. He finished with just 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting.
The Mavericks kept things close in the first half, trailing by just five points at the break. However, the Celtics pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Mavericks 31-19. Boston's defense also clamped down in the second half, holding the Mavericks to just 40% shooting from the field.
Luka Doncic led the way for the Mavericks with 25 points, but he also committed eight turnovers. Jalen Brunson added 21 points, while Reggie Bullock scored 17.
Game 4 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for Friday night in Dallas. The Mavericks will need to win to avoid falling into an 0-4 hole.
