China to Issue 70 National Standards for Carbon Footprints

Beijing, Aug 8 (Reuters) - China has released a plan to standardize carbon emission calculations across key sectors, part of its efforts to meet its carbon reduction targets.

The country's top economic planning agency announced plans to establish 70 national standards this year to govern carbon footprints in energy, transportation, and industrial sectors, official media reported Monday.

China has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. As part of those efforts, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said it would develop standards for carbon footprint calculations in key areas including energy, transportation, and industrial sectors.

The MEE and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Standardization Work of Carbon Accounting." The move aims to assist companies in improving the accuracy and consistency of their carbon footprint calculations, aiding in effective carbon management and emission reductions.
